THE TONGAKIRO ARRIVES. The liner Tongariro arrived in Wellington yesterday afternoon from Auckland and ports. She is expected to complete .discharge about Tuesday next, when she will sail for Lyttelton. Slio is berthed at the King's Wharf. THE HINEMOA ARRIVES. A lettle before noon yesterday the Government steamer Hinemoa arrived in port after her long-thy visit to lighthouses. She has been engaged in. the last few dayß in searching for a reported uncharted rock, but without success. She will leave to visit the Cook Strait lighthouses early next week. THE MELBOURNE. Up till a late Hour lost night there was no appearance of the Melbourne, which is now over a week out from Newcastle with coal for Mira.mar. The trip usually occupies about five days and a half, and it is surmised that she has run into heavy weather. THE DREDGE PARITUTU. The New Plymouth Harbour Board's dredgo Paritutu, wliioh has been in Wellington for some weeks undergoing hej annual overhaul, is likely to leave for her us-ual haunts to-day. The John is due here <m Sunday from Lyttelton. She sails again on Monday for Wanganui. THE NGAHERE FOB OVERHAUL. The Ngaliore is due at Napier from Tokomaru Bay to-<la.y. She proceeds to Greymouth to load for Wellington, being dno here next week. After discharge the Ngaherc will go on to tho Patent Blip for overhaul. THE NEW DEVON. The .steamer Devon, which is on .her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New Zealand, has a history, says the "Bulletin." She was built at Dunkirk (France) when woj broke out, and was towed out of harbour to avoid risk of being taken by the Germans .when they seemed likely to break through a year ago. The Devon displays proudly in the chief saloon a chunk of a 17-inch shell that burst near her just as she was hurried out of the building yard in a half-clad state. BERWICK LAW SAILS MONDAY. The Borwiolt Law is now listed to sail tor London, via ports, on Monday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. G. Williams, late of tho Tarawera, has taken Mr. A. Herring, assistant purser of the . Manaroa, is leaving to-day by the Moeraki for Sydney, in order to join tho Atua in a similar capacity. Owing to sickness, Mr. W. A. Cairns, fifth engineer of the Jlararoa, has had to come ashore for h fow days. His place has been taken by Mr. A. ITaltigaa. The Defender, which arrived yesterday from Westport, is to leave for Karameo. this morning. She will not take cargo. The Alexander is expected to arrive rrom the Sounds on Sunday. She will leavo on Monday for Nelson and the coast.
