TENTH ROUTE MARCHING

THE SICKNESS AT MTHERSTON

Oolonel Gibbon. C.G.S., visited the Feathenstoii military oamp yesterday. Surgeon-General Henderson will inspect the New Zealand Medical Corps camp at Awapuni to-morrow. Route March To-morrow. ' The 10th Infantry lteinforcements will begin their route march to Trentham at 4 o'clock to-morrow morning. During , the march lield operations by tlay and by night will be gone through, and the troops will marcn into Trentham camp on Saturday afternoon, preceded from Upper Hutt to the camp by tne Trentliam camp band. Follow-: ing is the programme of the march:— First Day, 17th.—Breakfast 2 a.m. Loave Fcathereton camp 4 a.m. March to Kaitoke and bivouac there. Haversack" rations to bo carried Second Day, 18th. .March to Maidstone Park; midday meal there noon, followed by night operations in Majigaroa Valloy. A and Is Companies Maugaroa Valley, C, 1), E, and F Companies Wallaceville. Third Day, 19th.—Conclusion of night operations; breakfast on tie ground'; afterwards march to Trentham.

. Sickness at Featherston. : . The position regarding the prevalence .of gastric illness at Featherston camp appears to be improving SurgeonGeneral Henderson stated yesterday that on Monday, when the strength of the troops in camp was 5030, 26 men were in Hospital with gastritis troubles. Yesterday, with ,the strength at 5483, there were 18 men in hospital for the causes mentioned, 11 having been discharged and four new cases admitted. The total cases of sickness of all kinds m the three hospitals connected with tho camp yesterday afternoon was 125, 63 teing in the camp hospital, 31 at Greytown, and 31 cases of measles at the hospital oil Tauherenikau racecourse. The peroentago of sick to strength was 2.3. General Henderson stated that in the army reports auytbing under 3.5 per cent, of sickness in a body of men was regarded-as satisfactory, and indicated that the troops wero in good .health. On parade yesterday morning, men, representing 2.2 per cent, of the etrengtb,' reported -that they were suffering from niild gastric troubles. It was evident/that the men.in camp were' suffering from a form' of sickness which was general throughout the country. The water-supply, both from the races and the: walls'in the camp, was quite good. It had been suggested that the gastric enteritis might have been caus:ed by ■'eating'potatoes'which were' suffering from blight. General Henderson said he had made special inquiries regarding the potatoes and l found that they were excellent. Ho was convinced the disease was 1 of a mild character and wouldl/sooh subside..'
