The Minister of Defence (the Hon. J. Allen) returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Visitors to Wellington staying at the Albert Hotel are: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. M'edwell (South Australia), Mr. J. H.. M'Donald (Sydney), aud Mr. W. E. Davis (Auckland). A private letter received in Wellington states that the Rev. C. O. Harper, late Archdeacon and Vicar of St. Peter's, has been appointed to the rectory of St._ Mary's, Newincton, South London, which is in tho gift of the Bishop of Southwark. St. Mary's Church is a big, modern structure, capable of seating a congregation of 1000. It ia situated in a thickly populated area, the population of the parish exceeding 16.000. Tho Rev. Mr.. Harper is to. be inducted to his new charge on March 2, by the Bishop of Southwark. Since his arrival in England Mr. Harper has been looum tenens at Upper Avon Vicarage, Powsey, Wiltshire. Pewsey is a village with a population of 400 only, and near by there is a flying school.
