Mr. Arthur Osborne Gibbes, accountant to the Treasury, died on Thursday morning at tho age of 57 years. Dewho had been in ill-health for some time, was born at Whanearei, and was a brother of Sir Edward Gibbes, Secretary for Education. He had nearly completed forty years' service, and his death will be,deeply regretted by a Very large circle of friends and acquaintances. In tho earlier days of Wellington the late Mr. Gibbes occupied a leading position in the athletic world. He was a prominent player in tho ranks of the Wellington Football Club, and was also well known in the rowing world. He leaves a widow and cue daughter, Mrs. C. Holmes, whose husband (formerly of Messrs. Dalgety and Co.'s staff) is now at the front.
