THE DUTHIE CUP RACE. At the: swimming' carnival at the Tepid Baths last night principal interest ifllltred in the filial of the teams' race or public , school boys. Oji the previ•us evening two "heafe had ben decided, . ijfith the result that Marist Bros. (TasInaii Street), Clyde Quay, Terrace, and Normal qualified for the final. Ai further heat, early last evening, gave | the Maranui team a right to start in ihe final. A most exciting contest took jlace when the five teams lined up. •Jlyde Quay had a lead with their first my, but Marist Bros, had the lead by •' ihe time tho second boy bad finished, and they retained it to tlie end, although the last competitor was hard pressed by Terrace on tho one side and 01yde_Quay 011 the other. Maranui ind Norman- were outclassed. Marist Bros. (Tasman Street) thus win the championship titlo and hold the Duthie sDup for a year. The Coltman Cup for public school girls was won by a team from the Terrace School. Prior to,the commencemsnt of the races, opportunity was taken i.o present the Royal Humane Society's certificate to.C. Lausdowne for life-saving.
