This generous treatment is being muoh. appreciated by returned soldiers. Of eighty-eight recruits examined for dental defects on Monday, thirty were found to bo without defects of any kind. 'i'ho Wairarapa quota of the Thirteenth Reinforcements left for Trentham on Tuesday morning, and was given, a hearty 6end-off at the local railway station. The quota was twenty short of the full complement. The Palmerston North Branch of tho Farmers' Union lias criticised tho action of Mr. W. Perry, of Masterton, in the matter of the purchase of tho Mauriceville linje-kiln for the benefit of farmers, in preference to the limo deposits in the Manawatu Gorge. In a statement to tho local paper, Mr. Porry says ho was influenced by tho report of the Government Chemist, who stated that Mauriceville lime was probably from 15 to 20 per cent, superior to that in the' Manawatu Gorge. Moreover, all lie did was to secure an option over the Mauriceville kilns, and if the farmers of the Manawatu had so desired they need not have completed the transaction.. A heavy thunderstorm passed over the Masterton district oil Monday afternoon. Ovor half an inch of rain was registered in about an hour. The Solway Girls' School, which is situated on an ideal site in the neighbourhood of Masterton, was officially opened on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering. Tiuluim, of Stronvar, has been nominated For the vacant seat on the Mastorton County Council.
