ARREST FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT
VICTIM SENT TO HOSPITAL,
A wharf labourer named Harry Slade was removed to the Wellington Hospital last evening suffering from a severe wound on the forearm, and at ono time his condition seemed so serious that arrangements wore made to take his depositions. Later ho was re.ported to" be progressing favourably. From information furnished to the. police, Slade appears to have been living in a room at Bouicott Street, and was ill the habit of liaving his meals in restaurants. He went to Carney's Boardinghouse, in Dixon Street, yesterday evening, and just before 6 o'clock he ran in from the backyard alleging that he had been assaulted with a razor. There was a - wound about five inches long in his left arm,'and ho was bleeding profusely, an artery having been severed. Fortunately someone on the premises knew enough about "first aid to the injured" to stom the bleeding and send for medical assistance. Dr. Margaret M'Cahou arriVcd later, and Slade, who was then in a, state of collapse, was removed to the Hospital. He stated that lie received the wound on the arm when he raised it to protect his face from a slash with a razor. A mau described as a boarder at Carney's establishment, visited the Manners Street Police Station some time after the alleged affray, and was taken into custody. He will appear at the Magistrate's Court this morning, and, will be called upon to answer tiie following charge, "that having assaulted Harry Slade with intent to cause, him grievous bodily harm, ho did cause Harry Slade actual bodily harm."
