The official notepnper of the war prisoners 3 camp at Giessen, Germany, where large numbers of British soldiers are interned, now contains in displayed columns the dietary of the men. There are* three miaals a day—breakfast, dinner, and supper—and a daily allowance o£ l(Hoz. of bread. In calculating the value of the German food it must be remembered that the bread is composed mainly of 'potatoes nnd'rye, the "coffee" is burned barley, and the "beef" is in., some cases horse flesh. The following is th'e diet:— Breakfast, •Thursday—loz. cocoa, 1 Moz. sugar, 7-lOths of an ounce of starch meal, Wednesday and Saturday— loz. potato meal, 2 oz. starch meal, and l-3oz. margarine. * On' the remaining four days breakfast consists of coffee and sugar, loz. of coffee and, d'joz. of sugar for .six men. Dinner. Monday—loz. bacon, with potatoes and beans. • Tuesday—3J-oz. pork, with potatoes and beans'. Wednesday—loz. meat (unspecified), potato flour, potatoes, and loz. • (over) •dried vegetables. Thursday—Sioz. meat, sauerkraut, and potatoes. .Friday—s;oz. salt fish, potatoes, and 1-3 oz. soup flavouring. Sunday—loz. of beef, doz. of white cabbage, about IJll>. of potatoes. Supper. Monday—Herring and potatoes. 'Tuesday—Same as Sunday. Wednesday—3Soz. rice, 1 2-ooz. l;]oz. dried fruit. Thursday—Same as ; Monday. Friday—Cheese and potatoes. Saturday—Same as .Wednesday. Sunday—Stoz. field beans, 7-lOths of an ounce of starch meal, 7-lOths of an ounce of margarine, and 7oz. potatoes. If all the meat and fish allowed for each soldier for dinner for a Week is added together it comes to just over fourteen ounces or meat (mainly salt) and 5£ ounes of salt fish.—"Daily Mail."
