OFFICERS' EQUIPMENT
STATEMENT BY DEFENCE MINISTER. »By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February .4. A statement regarding the equipment for active sorvico of officers was made by .the Minister of Defence to-tlay. An allowance of £20 is made by the Department to each officer, but it lias been stated that the necessary equipment costs about £40. "I been having the matter carefully considered during the past fortnight," said theHon. J. Allen. "The"'talk about necessary equipment costing £40 is sheer nonsense. I shall publish in the course of a few days a list of what is necessary, and I will sav now that if officers cannot find that equipment themselves I will finfl it for them."
