[ It would savour of ingratitude on the part of the people of New Zealand if the efforts of the High Commissioner in London since the outbreak of the war were allowed to pass without some words of encouragement—some expression of the appreciation which all must feel for the great zeal and energy he has during a very trying period. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, from what we can gather from the Press and from the public records and from tbpse who have been brought into personal touch _ with * his work in London, has missed no opportunity within his reach to serve the interests of the people of this country, while at the same time doing what lay within his power to advance the fortunes of the Empire in the war. The the Dominion o.we much- to his energy and enterprise, and he has been unsparing in his efforts on behalf of New Zealand's wounded and invalided-soldiers in England. The round of his activities must have imposed a great strain upon him and upon the officers of his department, for apart from the many tasks in which lie has figured in public a .heavy burden must have been east upon his shoulders by the increased ; responsibilities attaching to his position as the personal representative of the Government in London during a very critical time. .
