ON A GERMAN SUBMARINED ACTION

TOLD BY A BRITISH PRISONER ON BOARD. By Teletrraph-'-Prcss Association—Copyritthl London, February 2. On. December 8 last it was reported that a German submarine boarded a Greek steamer in the Straits of Messina, and arrested Colonel Napier, for.uei'ly a military attache at Sofia, and Oaptain Wilson, M.P., who was convcy.ng letters from the Eastern Mediterranean ip London. Colonel Napier and Captain Wilson were then taken on board the submarine. A letter has since been received from Captain Wilson, by his sister, recounting his adventures. Ho says: "When the submarine appeared my first duty was to save the dispatches. I did this, but I am afraid it involved tho loss of a. Christmas present from the British Minister at Athens. Colonel Napier and I were well treated by the submarine officers, who cave us two berths. We shared their food. "The submarine soon had to fight a patrol boat. I heard the guns, but did not know what was happening. Wo were submerged for twelve hours on the second night, and next morning I was allowed on deck. I saw that we were escorted by three destroyers. Suddenly there ,was great excitement—a submarine from the Allies' fleet discharged her torpedo and just missed the destroyers. In a moment the destroyers were firing fast, but the submarine submerged. I could not help admiring the way in which the captain of our submarine' managed his boat. He ivas a man of strong character, and ready to fight anything. "When we landed we spent two days in a fortress, then lon December 8 wo were trained through Sarajevo and Budapest to Vienna. We are now in an ordinary prison and not even allowed to see the newspapers."
