THE NEW RECRUITING SCHEME
STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER.. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 3. "It has to be recognised," said the Premier to-night, "that we require a" steady and constant stream of men t-o meet requirements from week to week and month to month. Just at present there are 110 arrears, and I am bound to .say that tlie men of the country are doing wonderfully well and showing proper recognition of the position in wbicli the Ihnpiro is placed. The new recruiting scheme will be in full operation within a fortnight." Mr. Massey stated that the Government Printing Office is working overtime printing the list of names for the district commit-' tees, and circular letters which are to be sent to them, and the first of them will be posted before the end of this week. "We expect, to start the campaign in either Dunedin or Christchurch, arid then to inaugurate it in Wellington and Auckland." Mr. Massey explained that each recruiting organisation will be expected to interview all men of military age in its district. Every man who intends to enlist will be asked to state a date Upon which he will ho prepared to go into cantp, and particulars will be given to the Defence Department. A complete list will be kept of all the men interviewed, with their decisions on the question of enlisting.
