FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT. VEHICLE CAPSIZES OVER A BANK. By Telegraph— Press Association. Te Kiiiti, January 29. ,An accident occurred on the WaimihaTangitu Road last night to Mr. W. Barlow, his wife, and their live children. Tho party was being driven home to Tangitu by Mr. G. Barlow, when the vehicle capsized over a bank and Mr. IV. Barlow was killed, and his wife injured (she is also suffering from shock). G. Barlow was injured on the head, 1 chest, and hands. Tho children escaped injury. ' MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENT. As the result of a collision in Adelaide Road at noon on Saturday, between Mr. Harry Hanimond, of 28 Marion Street, mid Mr. Mornton, the rider of a motor cycle, the latter was thrown violently to tiio ground, and sustained a broken leg. The injured .man was at onco removed to tlio Hospital, where tlie fractured limb was set. « ===== UNIVERSITY SENATE __u ' COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS The Senate of tho University of New Zealand resumed it's sittings on Saturday morning, the Chancellor, Sir Robert Stotit, presiding'. The Degreo and Commerce Examinations Committee brought up an interim report. It rccoininendcd, among other tilings, that a meeting tys held between the committee and the Society of Accountants; that no action be alien in the direction of establishing a B.Litt.; that the action of the University Agent bo confirmed in tho matter of (the appointment of examiners, and that examiners bo appointed as recommended by the Board of Studies, viz.English— Professor Elton (Liverpool), Professor Moorman (Leeds), Professor MooreSmith (Sheffield), Professor GregorjSmith (Belfast), Professor Littledale (Cardiff). Commercial French and German—Professor Kastner (Manchester University), Professor Wcekley (Nottingham University), Professor Atkins (London University), Professor Spiers (London University).
The committee further recommended that tho statute relating to the Degrees of Doctor of Literature be amended so as to provide that a candidate lor tho Degreo of Doctor of Literature shall either (a) be a Master of Arts of the University of Now Zealand, or (b) hold a degree, ot that or- somo other approved University, substantially equivalent,, in tlio opinion of Senate, to tho said degree; provided that no candidate shall bo accepted ip virtue of graduation at another University unless his thesis embodies tho result of a research either (a; of peculiar importance to NewZealand and occupying at least two academic years; provided further that no candidate shall present himself for the degreo until at least five years after admission to his first degree. A similar amendment of the statute relating to the Degreo of Doctor of Science was also proposed. Further, that nothing bo done respecting the institution of honours in education ponding a further report from the' Board of Studies, and that the meeting of teachers of education be held during tlio next annual meeting of the Board of Studies. The recommendations regarding the Decrees of Doctors of Literature and Science wero held over for consideration at a later date. The other recommendations were adopted. ~ The Senate then adjourned until'today.
