CAMPS AND THE MEN
1 BATHING PARADES POPULAR. On Wednesday and Saturday after- . noons bathing parades in the Hutt ■ ltiver are standing orders. During the hot weather which has prevailed of j late, the men have revelled in the cool delight of shedding their clothes and plunging into the water. The distance from the camp to the river is about a 1 mile, part of the way being through shady groves, and the sight of the companies of men marching with towels 1 slung over their shoulders caused many n civilian to envy them. Tenth Infantry. ' The Tenth Infantry will return from their extended leave at the end of this , week, and go into new quarters at the Featnerston camp. As soon as the tents'are up and cook-houses erect- ] ed on the vacant land opposite the main camp, the Tenth will go under canvas for several weeks. Early next month they will set out-on the march 1 to Trentham, across the Rimutakas, which has become the final testing-out . of the fitness of the New Zealand sol- J dier. , Rangiotu Camp. i The Rev. Owen Doyle, chaplain, 4th Class (Roman Catholic), has reported for duty. He is posted to the 3rd Bat.talion. '' : 2nd Lieutenant J. H. Dick, N.Z.A.S.C., has also reported for duty. He is attached to the Supply Depot. The following temporary promotions have,.'.been approved:—2s/30 Sergeant ;By»Mollison, "A" Coy., to be sergeant-, niajor; 25/934 Rifleman P. W. Alley, Batt. Hqrs. (Sanitary Police), to be lance-corporal; 25/1113 Rifleman A. M. ;Stuart, "D" Coy.,-.to be lance-corporal whilst-employed as clerk in the quartermaster's stores; • Trentham Camp. i The following staff cadets have reported for duty at Trentham: —Staff Cadet L. G. Goss, Staff Cadet J. B. Jordan, Staff Cadet, R. S. Park. The following temporary appointments have been approved of*by the Camp Commandant at Trentham:— 1 : 10th Artillery—Bomb. H. W. Butler to be corporal;' Bomb. G. P. Sage, to be corporal; Bomb. R. W. Coubrough to be corporal. 11th Artillery.—Sergeant R. A. Brewer to be battery-sergeant-major; Sergeant H. E. Farr to be battery-ser-geant-major; Corporal \Y. J. Peake to be sergeant; Bomb. K. Allen to be corporal; Gunner C. R. M. Massey to be bombardier; Gunner T. Kirton to be bombardier. 12th Artillery.—Gunner F. 0. Knowles, orderly-room clerk, to be bombardier. 10th N.Z. Field Engineers.—Lce.Corpl. R. A. Calvert to be corporal (or-derly-room clerk); Spr. E. T. Salveson to be lance-corporal. "A" Company, 12th Reinforcements. —Pts. El. C. Baker, R. C. Barker, A. C. Coleman, A. Duckworth, G- R. Cantle, W. J. Earle, L. L. J. Grice, C. G. Guiness, F. E. Gough, J. Ireland, R. G. Knight, W. A. Le Pine, W. B. Marshall, A. I. D. Moon, M. L. M'Namara, J. B. Wilkins to be lance-cor-porals. The following men are transferred between the undermentioned units: —Ser-geant-Major H, E. Farr from 11th Artillery to 12th Artillery; Lce.-Corpl. C. Hale from Samoan Relief to "A" Coy., lOfch; Sergt.-Major A. Kennedy, Base Records, Wellington, to 14th N.C.O.'s, as corporal; Sergt.-Major F. J.'Tra.vnor, Baso Records, Wellington, to 14th N.C.O.'s, as corporal; Barrack Warden Sergt. W. A. Moore, from Headquarters Staff, Trentham, to Headquarters Staff, Tauhercnikau.
