r MEETING OF THE SENATE}. ~ The Senate of the University of New Zealand resumed its sittings yesterday morning, • the Chancellor (Sir Robert Stout) presiding. The first business was the election of a Vice-Chancellor, in place of Sir Charles Bowen, who has held the position since 1903. Mr. H. F. Yon Haast nominated Professor MacMillan Brown, of Canterbury, College, who had been a member of the Senate since 1877. The nomination was seconded bv the Hon. J. A. Tole, and supported by other members, who spoke in laudatory terms of the 1 good service rendered to tho University by Professor Brown. There were no other nominations, and Professor Brown was declared duly elcctod. Mr. H. F. Von Haast moved that the Senate proceed with discussion of the report of the Board of Studies at 10 o'clock this morning. The motion was carried.; A letter expressing regret for inability to attend- was received from Sir Jlaurico O'llorke. Leave of absence tvas granted. Professor MacMillan Brown gave notice to. move that next year the Senate .meet at Auckland on January 17. The Senate adjourned at 2.50 p.m., and the standing committees resumed their work.
