MASTERTON NOTES
The Masterton County Council lias been unable to induce any person to offer bis services for a vacancy oil tho council caused by the resignation of Councillor 11. F. R. Beetham, who is on active service. Tho vacancy has been twice advertised, but there has been no response. A third effort is now being made to secure a candidate for the position.
It lias been decided that the headquarters of the National Service League for 1916 shall be at Masterton. A booklet is about to be issued, outlining the objects of the league, The Wairarapa Patriotic Society will, it is understood, advance- money to returned soldiers of the district who may be successful in land ballots.
There are at present ten inmates of the Solway Home, and ten inmates of the Buchanan Home at Greytown. The' Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has decided to suggest to the Minister of Health that tents be erected at the various hospitals to accommodate these soldiers whose 'homes may be situated in the country districts, some distance away from the hospitals, while those within easy reach will be treated as required.
