TREATMENT OF TROOP HORSES. At a meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last evening, Mr. F. Meadowcroft presided. Tho Inspector (Captain J. Henry) reported aipon a number of cases of suffering animals, which had occupied his attention during the period since tho last meeting. In tho concluding portion of his report, the Inspector said: "I would again beg to bring to the notice of tho committee the practicc of cutting tho. manes and tails of tho horses sent by the Defence Department to Egypt and elsewhere. This is one of tho worst forms of cruelty I know of." ■ After some discussion it was resolved that the Inspector bo directed to visit tho military camp and ascertain exactly how the manes and tails of horses are clipped, and report to the next meeting. The society will then be in a position to approach tho Defence Department to point out how cruel it is to send horses to climates where flies are prevalent after taking away from tho liorses tho natural means of protecting themselves against the pest..
