THE END OF THE WAR
.JAPANESE PROPHET'S PREDICTION. If wliat is predicted by a prophet of the Japanese, in whom the people of 'the country have complete confidence, may bo relied on, the end of the great European conflict is far off. Dr. G. Skirojuchi, of the s.s. Tango Maru, in tile course of conversation, said ho had been informed by one of the princes of •his country that the prophet (whose name is not given) had made a pronouncement. His prediction goes in Japan, for he predicted the war with Russia long betoro it occurred, and also predicted the death of the Emperor long before that evcut of national importance. The prophet gives it that the war will continue for five years from the time of commencement, and that on its conclusion one great Power will control the affairs of the world. To the natural inquiry: "Which is the Power?" Dr. Shirojiichi had no reply. The prophet had not covered the main, question. More unlikely things may happen than the direction of the disagreements of the civilised world by some kind of council of the_ great Powers', of which, at the conclusion of the war, there will lie but five—Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and Japan. It is apparent that the aim of America is to centralise the ■world in New York, but this aim will be defeated easily by any concentration of effort of the Allied Powers. As a factor in any warlike disturbance it ■ is clear America will never count. And while Britain and her Allies in this war hold the seas, it will not matter much to what height the dollar ambition of the United States may soar.
"America will always be neutral while Japan and Britain are in alliance," say the Japanese. "As to Germany?" "So," said the doctor, gravely, as he flicked the ash from the end of his cigarette.
