EASTBOURNE BOROUGH
At the monthly meeting .of the Eastbourne Borough Council on Fridav night, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Kelly) prosided, and there was a full attendance of members. The Ferry Board reported that exceptionally good husiness had been done during December, the receipts exceeding those'of December, 1914. Owing to the results of the ohildren's excursions.having proved entirely satisfactoryit was decided to continue them until January 31. It was decided to _ prosecute two porsons for having, as it was alleged, travelled on a steamer without paying their fares; and the manager was instructed to arrange for a ticket inspection at frequent intervals. In regard to a suggestion by Mr. J. Fuller, jun., that the council should run its boats from the Taranaki , Street wharf on Sundays, it was reported that the Wellington, Harbour Board had written that traffic arrangements rendered the proposal impracticable. The Building Committee reported that a. commencement had been made with the erection of a building in the borough without a permit. It was decided that action be taken against the person concerned. The dog tax was fixed at 10s. for ordinary dogs, and ss. for working dogs. Further consideration was given to a proposal by Mr. J. W, Blackman, of Masterton, to establish coal-gas works in the borough. It was decided, after considerable discussion, to take no action in the. matter Attention was drawn to the number of camps that have this year been established on the Domain. The Town Clerk was instructed to erect notices that camping on the Domain is prohibited without his permission.
