M. ELMAN APPEAL FOR JEWS
Mischa Elman, the celebrated violinjet, who recently gave a. 'concert in Carnegie ;Hall, New York/in aid : of 'the Jewish war sufferers, makes the following appeal:— "In the general catastrophe that has come upon the civilised countries of Europe, 'the Jewish people met their greatest tragedy in history. Thoy are fighting in all the armies of the nations at war, distinguishing-themselves for bravery, for loyalty, and for patriotism; they are shedding their blood with the rest of the nations. The theatre of. war is largely in the regions, populated by the Jews, and, therefore, the Jews find themselves the. most tragic victims of the war.' . _ 1 ] •. . "The. Jews in these regions, millions of them, are starving; they have no bread, no homes, no nope. The women, the children, and the aged are crying in vain for aid,-for a crust of bread, for a roof over their heads, now that winter has set in. "I appeal to the Jews of America, whose generosity has manifested itself on all occasions, to intensify their efforts to send'immediate relief to raise a fund worthy of the generosity and standing of the Jews of for the aid of the Jewish'war sufferers. Help the millions-, of homeless, starving Jews, whose' bread-winners are in the trenches of all the armies engaged in this war."
