The different stages of the raco were . checked aa follow Six furlongs, Imin. ;; 143-5300.; one mile, lmin. 42 3-ssec.; ono mile and a quarter, 2min. 72-ssec.; and the full; journey. 2min. 313-ssec. The totalisator investments for the day i amounted to ,£37,139. which is about I less than the first day (Wednesday) of' the : last Summer Meeting. I The first event was a good betting Tiice, ' with publio favouritism divided between Hinemanu and Black Ada. It was a good ' raco tho whole way and resulted in a stirring; finish between Black Ada, Hine- : manu; and Rongora. The first-named won by a jieck witli Rongora a head away, followed.. J)y Rumania, and Ballyhar. At tlie start Roseland wd Ballyliar', were prominent, with Whakalioki whipping tho field. It was 'loft to the last race to provide 'the sensation of the day's raciug. Pan;mure was a good favourite, with Hvginas ; and Chakwana evenly backed. In the birdcage Panmure attractetl considerable attention, and was generally admired. Chakwana moved very attractivelv in the preh'minary, and made many friends. She drew No. 2 at the barrier, and the favourite and Tete-a-'i'eto were rext. Hyginas, Sweet Corn, and Tete-a-Tete were'in the van over the first part, but the favourite was slow to find his feet, and ran iii the rear to the course proper, where lie i came round on the outside. Tete-a-Tete ! shook off Hyginas, and was'soon clear of Sweet Corn, but Chakwana challenged 'determinedly over the last furlong, and the public watched the pair irnishiDg. Suddenly Panmure appeared on the outside, and after a wonderful., finish the trio crossed the line within a neck of cach other. Panmure got up in the last stride, ■ and Tete-a-Tete again accounted forChakTvana. Findhorn and Sv.eet Corn were . next. The performance of the winner was highly.meritorious, and justifies his importation by his owner. He can be ex- ; pected to improve considerably. W.
