LONG RANGE ARTILLERY AT - WORK EFFECTIVE SHELLING London, January 18, 0.40 a.m. Tho High Commissioner reports:— "In Belgium our long-range guns inflicted losses on the enemy. "North of tho Aisne our batteries caused important damage to tho enemy's works on the plateau of Vancleur, and north-west of Berry-au-bac, "On the height's of tho Mouse our lenorango guns bombarded the enemy's depots at Conflans-en-Jainey, flame and smoke issuing from tho buildings!" REPORT FROM THE BRITISH FRONT. 1 . GOOD WORK BY THE GUNS. By TclesraDh—l'ress Associatlou—Cooirlclit (Rec. January 18, 11.5 p.m.) London, January 18. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—"Our bombardment of Frelinghoim and Zwartleen, north of Ypres, was effective. Large fires were caused north of Ypres, behind'the enemy's lines." FRENCH OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. January 19, 0.35 a.m.) , Paris, January 18. A French official communique states: —"Our long-range artillery shelled tho enemy's forces which were gathering at Middlekerko, inflicting appreciable losses. "Tho artillery also caused a fire in the enemy's stores to the southward."
