BANK DIRECTORS ON TOUR

Referring to the tour of the north taken by three directors of the Bank of New Zealand—Mr. W. Watson &nd Mr. JR.. Kane, of Wellington, and Mr. J. H. Upton, of Auckland, the Whangarei correspondent of the Auckland "Herald" says:—Tho tri|> was made in order to get some idea of tho possibilities of the country, and the journey proved full of interest. The party left Auckland last Wednesday for Helonsville. Tho visitors, after their arrival at Holensville, journeyed to Ruawai and through the surrounding country to Dargaville, all parts of which showed signs. of prosperity. Tho trip was continued through the Kaihu Valley, and much good country was passed through during the- continuation of the journey to Whangarei. After a short stay here the party took a run up to Kaikohe, and from there they went on to Kohukohu. A diversion was made here to Maungamuka and' Opononi, to view some of the fine country m these parts. During their stay at Hokianga, Mr. A. C. Yarborough directed the exploration of the country surrounding Kohiv koliu, and accompanied tho party to Maungamuka and Oponini, The next _ place of importance visited was Kaitaia, reached via Broadwood and Herekino. The visitors were much impressed with tho class of country encountered and especially with the famous flats. The trip was then continued to Opug, where a motor launch was placed at their disposal. The journey to Russell was much enjoyed, as many of the beauties of tho Bay of Islands were seen. The visitors have traversed a great deal of country and have returned until a pleasant impression of the North and arc delighted with the evident signs of progress. Tho Northern Wairoa particularly attracted their attention, and Whangarei also holds a very high place in their estimation.
