, THE COLOSSUS MINE. . A visit to the Colossus Gold Milling Development Company's property at Wangapeka has just been paid by Messrs. ,W. H. ltathbonc, George Bee, D. E. Davis, jand A. A. Grace (directors of the company), Walter M'CaTthy (shareholder), and Arthur M'Carthy. (secretary).. The object of the visit was to enable the directors to inspect the plant and machinery and tho funnel that is being put in, and to view reefs that have been opened up in the oourse of the tunnelling operations during the past year. The main tunnel, which will intersect a number of reefs, is belhg- driven by air drills. "Water is conveyed from a creek by means of & race to a, Pelton wheel, which is employed to drive the drills. The plant and machinery was designed and-.erected by Mr. Leslie H. Reynolds, the well-known engineer. About ten men have been working on the property since June lost, under the company's manager; Mr. P. O'Malley. Mr. A. M'Carthy states that the reefs that are now being investigated are rich in true galena, and recent assays of stuff from them have gone as high as £9 7s. 6d. per ton. Prom the tunnelling spoil the concentrates of a dish recently assayed showed- a value at the rate of .£4 4s. 4d. per ton for silver and lead, and 28.9 per cent, for zinc.
