WIRTHS' CIRCUS. The big -show of Wirth Bros., Ltd., is Ip open in Wellington to-day, near To Railway Station. A largo crowd aslemoied on tho 'i'aranaki Street Wharf festerday to greet tho - s.s. Westralia, which hud the circus on board. Tho live stock was got off straight away, and the midnight the formidable task of unloading the huge tents was begun. A Programme of exceptional merit is promised. The - Wirth Family and; L-aptain Huling's- Performing Seals ■ jpe at the head of the bill. The formerhave j ust returned home after ?' ou r round the world, lasting five years. With them is Miss May Martin Avirth, whose career as a rider has been triumphant. She is an Australian girl, who received her early training with the Wirth Bros.' show. She was never happier than when working with tho horses and building a foundation for her career as a rider. The result of this early training was that when she performed for the first time in America the theatres where, she performed were packed to the doors night after night, and the Press acclaimed her as the greatest spinerauilt rider who had ever performed in America. After a /stan-ing engagement ivith the Barnum and Bailey snow, she nent to England, and appeared at tho premier amusement places, and also before their Majesties, King George and Queen Marj-, at the Olympia. The act in which the family appear is called "A Circus Modern," and is described as a delightful number. Captain Hiding's Seals are said to be tho most wonderfully trained animals that have ever been presented to an Australian public. They juggle; 'with balls and bare, walk the tightrope, and ride a pony, juggling tho while. ■ They also play tunes on a 6et of . electric bells, then they all combine, in "The Seal Band." The Loretta Twins are two female bar performers, whose performance is said to be graceful and clever,, and they accomplish feats that few men can equal. Louvain, on the aerial wire, has many new things to show, and the Ernesfemians and NovikofTs in their aerial act. are stated to be clever beyond the ordinary. Mussa Marnier, the Russian Co-sack, gives an exposition of the C-cssack motley of warfare, and does wonderful things while his horse is at the Kallop. A group of young' Australianbred lions. are an item of more than ordinary interest. These and a number of highly-trained horses and elephants are but a few items in the programme. The Zoo . is to bo open from -1 to 5 daily, at ft nominal fee, and an interesting sight is the feeding of the seals and sea-liohß. will be held on Wednesday and Saturday. The box plan is at, the Bristol. HIS MAJESTY'S. THEATRE, .. The Fuller Vaudeville Company will rcvide an entirely new programme at /-is Majesty's Theatre to-night, in which' :• contingent of new artists will appear, jSveral of whom are stated to reach a :sgh standard of excellence. A number •ttf debuts will bo made, the principal attraction, being Kipp and Kippy, a pair of American comedians, who axe stated to show much dexterity in the juggling of a variety of -articles .which are apparently manipulated at' random, but with an actual precision of movement which is said t.o be. astonishing. Another important first appearance is that of Mable and Malfiey a pair of English comedians and dancers. Lovers of good singing will welcome the reappearance, of Pollard and Jackson, who have been re-engaged, and will submit an -entirely -ne.w- repertoire. Miss Alice Pierce will apjjear 1 for"another ■ six nights, and will offer a number of new impressions of contemporary players. : Bollinger and' Reynolds, • comedy wire ''.walkers, will present several new feats. The supporting artists will be Geo. Wheeler, Ward Lear, (lie Astelles, and tho ever-popular. Miss Violet Trevenyon. The current programme will be ..staged nightly during" the week, and a matinee will be given on Saturday; EVERYBODY'S' THEATRE., Starting to-day, at noon, a sensational .dramatic attraction will, be the main feature.' In that fine story, "Trapped by tils Flames," the. producers are said- to have spared no expense to arrive at perfection in all branches of the subject. It is-described as a masterpiece.of cleverness,' exciting scenes, and is stated to have a surprising, climax. This is the 18th. episode of "The Million Dollar Mystery." Another good drama of a domestic misunderstanding is seen in "Love's Way." Two -rollicking comedies are "The Honeymoon Pact" and "Never Again," a bright, breezy Western i°ke. Of special interest at the .present moment is a scenic, which shows the beauty- spots "In the Heart of Egypt." "The Gaumont Graphic," with the latest war scenes, is also included. THE EMPRESS. The Kalem Company have. recently produced a set of ten. photo-plays based upon the Commandments. . The first of these, which is entitled "The Firat Commandment," forms the main attraction on to-day's new. programme'at The Empress. The story is said'to show through--out many powerfully acted situations how a giant of the financial world, who lives only for the worship of .gold, is eventually ruined in the battle of competition, and . is taken to the home of the son whom he has cast aside in the race for wealth! Mt, Tom Moore and Miss Marguerite Courtot, two of the screen's most gifted exponents, are in the leads. . The supporting films will-include "Constantinople" (Gaumont Scenic), "Man of the -Woods" (a comedy in the beautiful Pathe Colour), "The Topical Budget," and the V itagraph laugh-maker, "Booble's Baby." i
THE KING'S. The new programme to be submitted at "the King's Theatre to-night is headed by a Yilagraph drama of New York life, entitled "The' Awakening," in which Anita Stewart and Earlo Williams, two of tho most popular picture artists of today, appear to advantage. The picture has been described as a "slico of New York," and shows in strong contrast the heart of the society woman and the . nature of the girl of the tenoments. An appealing love story and some strong situations give the actors a fine opportunity. On the same programme a "Thanhouser" 2000 ft. feature film, entitled "R-eiuearnation," with Florence La Badie in-the leading role, will be shown. This picture is said to be an impressivo and original subject cleverly conceived and' produced, with eoiuc excellent acting. Tho brighter side of the programme is provided in two clever .comedies, one being "Following the Scent," in which Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew show how to cure a jealous husband. This comedy is said to be one of the best by this cTever couple. "Wife, the Weaker Vesis also described as being veiy rflnustng. "How the French Coast is CTuardeil," a military picture of timely Merest, and the lateit Pathe Gazette complete a strong bill. ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY. ■ "Gipsy Love," a romantic light opera, •is announced- as the first piece of a season by the Williamson Royal Comic Opera Company, an. organisation whoso appearance is always welcomed. "Gipsy Love" will open on Friday evening next at tlie Grand Opera House, and will be played.for three nights only. It is spoken of as being an entirely delightful work. The music, which is by Franz Lehar, tho composer of "The Merry Widow," is claimed to bo specially elegant and scholarly. The engagement of Miss Florence Young to play ""Lady Babby" and other loading parts is expected to prove a powerful attraction. Two other artists of high calibre will make first appearances, namely, Miss Ethel Cadman, a mous English'light opera artist, and Mr. Iteffek Hudson, a distinguished grand opera baritone. Messrs. Reginald Bob-' erts, Leslie Holland, Phil Smith, Claude Bantock, Jolia Ralston, Charles Albert, and Misses Minnie Love, Maggie Moore, Addie L-ennard, Ivy Dawn, Ethel Benneto, and Mrs. George Lauri, who are in tho cast, are names well and favourably known in conjunction with musical comedy. The season, which i 6 announced as a repertoire one,- will include, besides "Gipsy Love," "Our Miss Gibbo," "Paul Jones,"-' "The Quaker Girl," "Ma Mie Rosette," and "The Dancing. Mistress" (for the first time here), and they will be produced in the order, named. The season is for 11 nights only, and the box plans for the first seven nights, during which will be presented "Gipsy Love,',' "Our Miss Gibbs," "Paul Jones" (the first-named three nights and the lastnamed one night), will be opened at 1 the .Bristol on Wednesday morning. The company numbers over 100 members, and includes a specially selected and . augmented orchestra, also a grand opera chorus and ballet.. ;
