HIGH WOOL PRICES
Discussing the high prices wool was bringing, Mr. Forbes, M.P., said that townsmen wore wrong in thinking that farmers generally wore making fortunes, states the Bruce "Herald." Not all wool brought anything near 20d. per lb. Owing to the present dry season and tho shortage of feed' there was a great diminution of ewes, the percentage of lambs was much lower than usual, and the number that would be exported must necessarily show a decrease. Tho wool output would be the lightest for some years,' and that factor would bring the gains to tho farmers back to that of normal years. He knew of one farmer in tho North Island who was 4Q bales of wool short this year with a similar number of sheep shorn as in previous years, and that instance was typical. Mr. Forbes added that his own wool chequo this season would bo less thaw lie received last year. "No," ho addf 1 emphatically, "fanners are not making fortunes nowadays."
