. Sir. J. G. R. Hewitt, S.M., of Taihape, is at present relieving Mr. L. 6. Reid, S M.j in the circuit sittings in the Wairarapa. , The Masterton County Council is considering the question of purchasing teams irith which to undertake maintenance and other work. Hitherto this work has been let by tender. The tender of Mr. Robert Sanders, of Auckland, at £2289, has been accepted by the Masterton County Council for the erection of a stock-bridge over the Waipoua River. Eleven other tenders were received. • The Solway Girls' College is to be opened next month. Important additions and improvements are being made to the buildings, and a capacious swimming bath is being, erected in the grounds. A dozen delegates are expected to be present at the annual conference of the N.Z. Athletic and Cycling Union, to be held here on Thursday and Friday. Several of the bridges in tho Masterton County are reported to bo in a condition of more or less advanced decay. 'J'Jie Masterton County Council has at. present au overdraft at the bank of £4417 12s. Id.
