MASTERTON NOTES
A large body of reinforcements left Masterton on Tuesday morning for Trentham. A great crowd of citizens. Territorials, etc., with the Municipal Band, assembled at the railway station to bid the recruits farewell. Much enthusiasm is being displayed in the Friendly Society Carnival that is being instituted in ime Wairarapa in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. It is liopea to raise betwen £30,000 and £40,000 by this effort. The organisation of the carnival is in the hands of Mr. J. Hopkins. The officers of the Stock Department in Masterton on Monday purchased about forty horses for re-mount "and artillery purposes. The animals, takon in the aggregate, are a very fine lot. Seats on local bodies in the Wairarapa are apparently not eagerly sought after. For the vacancy on the Masterton County Council caused by the resignation of Councillor R. F. R. Beetham, not a single nomination was received.
