CONVALESCENT SOLDIERS
OPENING OF ROTOItUA HOME. Tlio Convalescent Camp for Wounded Soldiers at Kotorua -will be opened to--morrow by the Minister of Public Health (the Hon. G. W. Kussell). , X'hero is every prospect of a large attendance of tho public, and the people of the district are arranging to make tlie function a liouble one. Tho Maoris are tc give bakas and poi dances at tho opening ceremonies, and probably the Maori Choir will assist. The Natives have promised also to give a sum of money towards the cost of the home. The Minister in Charge (tho Hon. G. W. Itusscll) left for Ilotorua last night, and other Ministers present at the opening will be the Hon. W. H. Herries and the lion. Dr. Pomare. Dr. Valintine, head of the Public Health Department, and Mr. James Hislop,,head of the Internal Aitairs Department, will also bo present, Notification has been sent to the medical superintendents of aU public hospitals throughout New Zealand that the camp rail be ready for convalesccnt soldiers directly after it is opened, and convalescent men now in tho ordinary hospitals may ho at once sent to Rotorua. In the meantime the Rotorua Hospital is being extended to accommodate 84 men. 'The task of caring for returned sick and wounded men is growing. On December 20 there were 215 returned soldiers in hospitals in the Dominion, and since that return ivsis made up tho men from tho Tahiti, the Makeno, and tho Ruahine havo arrived.
