A CHANCE TO ASSIST.

Sir, —Being a constant' reader, etc., etc., I beg to ask your advice and opinion of my position as regards the present question of "enlistment." I have enlisted a number of times, and have always failed to qualify owiug to a very minor, though evidently_ "fatal!" complaint (varicocele). I might state that there are to my knowledge half 'a dozen of my own personal friends at the front with this complaint, but it has been my unfortunate lot to be "caught" each time I presented myself for examination. I might point out that before I can get into camp I shall have to undergo the. operation liecossary ■to remove this "complaint." Unfortunately, however, my pocket will not allow me to face the expense, which, after all, is very small—l am told, £5 to £10. Do you not think the Government might in such particular cases as these offer to have us fixed up gratis? In fact, I would pay half the cost, and am sure many' others would, too. I have already had to foot one stiff account on account of getting my eyes fixed up, and feel keenly the idea of having perhaps' to go into camp later on with fellows who may bo forced to go. Even this, too, is a point to be thought of. Do 1 you not think that this is a great chance for some of our moneyed men to devote a few pounds towards helping a vory good cause? Thanking you for your favour in this matter, —I am, etc., A KEEN VOLUNTEER.
