CHRISTMAS TRAINS
$ PROTEST FROM ENGINE MEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurohi December 29. The following letter lias been addressed to the Minister of Railways by the General Secretary of -the New Zealand Locomotive Engine-drivers'. Eiremen, and Cleaners' Association : — "I am directed to draw your attention to tho increasing passenger traffic on Christmas Day, and to make the request that you will look into the matter of reducing the number of trains run on this day to a minimum. Members of this union consider every effort should be made to allow them to have this day in their own home, and as u scetion of the public seems to have no consideration for others, and seems intent upon travelling upon this day ns long as there are facilities to travel with, wo feel more than jnstified in asking you to take some action towards conserving this day for the emplo.yees, a3 • ono . upon which the public cannot claim our services. Many members _of this union look upon this day as being the most precious day of the year to them and tlieir families. It is considered ■ that you are to a large extent a party to this deprivation, by authorising the running of such a large number pf trains on this dav. May we therefore request that the train services be considerably reduced oil this particular day, and brought jnto line with Sunday services."
