SOLDIERS CHRISTMAS DINNER

LORD, AND LADY LIVERPOOL TO ATTEND. His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool will be among those present' at tlie Christmas dinner to be tendered to the soldiers in camp at Trentliam and May Morn this evening. The Prime Minister, and the Minister of Defence (Hon. Jas. Allen) will also be present, .as well as other Cabinet Ministers, who happen to be in town. . His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. ,P. Luko) also telegraphed invitations to be present to - the Mayors of the other three chief centres.

Mr. J. H. Gunson, Mayor of Auckland, replied:—"Regret exceedingly it will not be' possible for Mrs. Gunson and myself to be present on the 23rd'. Auckland very much appreciates what you are doing for the men. I cordially extend to Mrs. Luke and yourself the compliments of the season." The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr. J. J. Clark) replied"Many thanks for in-,vitation-;to Christmas dinner with troops in . camp. Regret unable to be with you. Please oonyey from citizens of 1 Dunedin greetings and their best wishes for a victorious year."

In conneotion with to-day's arrangement one contingent of helpers will procede to Trentham and May Mom at 10 o'dlock this morning, and t'he rest will leave town by a special train at 3 p.m. Every helper is being provided with a railway ticket by the Mayor, to prevent any confusion at the station. The following are additional donations to the Soldiers' Christmas Dinner Fund: —Mrs. M'D. Nathan, 215.; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Ewen, 425.; J. E. Fulr ton, £1 j sales per Miss Joseph, 295.; F. J. Pinney, £1; C. Henderson,.£l; C. M. Luke, £1; F. Sidey, 215.; T. S. Powell, 215.; Mr. and Mrs. C. Rob, inson, £2; C.T., £1; Hon. Jas. Allen, £6; Mrs. Winder, £1; Miss Hambly, £1; J. R. Foster, £1; Lady Ward, £5. Total to date* £761135. 4d.
