The Monowai will leave Dunedin a day early this week, and Lyttelton will be left to-morrow instead of Saturday for Wellington. She will tako -up her ordinary ruuning at this port on Monday next. On her next trip to Dunedin the Paloona will leave there on January 3 instead of the following day. She will leave Lyttelton on January 4, Wellington January 6, Tftipier January 7, and Gisborne January 8, arriving at .Auckland on January 9.
DUTCH STEAMER REPORTED. It transpires that the larpie steamer which reported off Farewell Spit at 12.55 p.m. 011 Tuesday was the Dutch steamer Ititsbereen, bound from Calcutta t-o Corral, South America. Messrs. Dalsety and Co., Lloyd's accnts at Wellington, received, advice to this effect from Stephens Island yesterday. The Jlitsberßcn called at Newcastle .011 December 15 for bunker coal. PAFAROA LEAYES SYDNEY. In continuation of her journey from Liverpool the F. and'S. chartered steamer Paparoa left Sydney for Auckland at 1 p.m. or* Tuesday. After dlecharcinc at the northern port the Paparoa will come on to Wellington on January 3 or 4. BARBER LINE TRANSHIPMENTS. According to advices received by G. H. Scales. Ltd., local agents for the Barber Line, the Jethou is due at Sydney from New York towards the end of nest week. Hor car.Ero for New Zealand ports will bo transhipped at Sydney. The Wacnma, of the same line, which left New York on November 18, was to have come to New Zealand. She will visit Australian ports only now, and her careo will also be transhipped at Sydney. The UE.inda. 4257 tons, Captain (low, will bo dispatchcd from New York for Aintralimi and New Zealand ports on December 31. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain J. liaukin, late chief officer of the' Monowai, has been appointed' master of the Poherua in succession to Captain W. W. Hcudor, who has como ashore for orders. Captain Cornwall, one of the best-known masters in the London-New Zealand trade, and lately in command of the T.urakina, has resigned from that appointment to join the Navy. Mr. M'Donald, third officer of the Manuka, has been promoted to be second of the Kauri in place of Mr. "W. S. Gilpin, who has been called up for active Eervice, and who went into camp yesterday with the infantry reinforcements. Mr. R. Dickey has rejoined the Pateena as purser, and Mr. R. Duckworth, late assistant purser of the Manuka, lias joined the Mapourikd as purser. Messrs. Carlyon and Butler, pursers of the Monowai' and Arahura, respectively, have exchanged positions.
Tho Paloona left Lyttelton last evening, and has 455 tons of cargo to put out. hero before proceeding on to northern ports this afternoon.
At noou yesterday the Mapourika arrived at Greymoutli from Wellington, via way parts. She left on the return trip at 9 p.m., and will leave Westport this morning and Neleon this evening, being <iuo here early to-morrow morning. She Mill leave Wellington at 5 p.m. for Picton and Nelson and will arrive back here on Tuesday, December 28.
New Plymouth cargo will be received by the Corinna- up till noon to-day, and the vessel will take her departure for that port at 3 p.m. The Manuka did not clear Lyttelton till early this morning, and will not arrive here till this afternoon. Consequently her departure for Sydney has been postpones till fi p.m. The Hinemoa arrived In port from hei periodical trip to southern and West Coast lights yesterday. On Tuesday next she will proceed to ItaroTi Itock light to pick up material which, has been "used in connection with the erection of the new light at that point. Subsequently Jackson Head Beacon and Astralabe Beacon will be visited,. then Nelson, and the Hinemoa will return to Wellington before proceeding on her northern trip. % R.IT.S. Corinthic arrived at Auckland yesterday morning, and commenced discharge of her London cargo immediately. An endeavour will be made to get her away from the northern port to-morrow evening, and Wellington should be reached on Sunday next. The Jlaraari is expected to leave Auckland for London to-morrow. It.M.S. Maktira, which arrived at Vancouver from Sydney, via Auckland, on December 16, waG to have left on the return journey yesterday. Hhe .is due at Aucklaud on January 10.
Word lias been received that tho Orient liner Ophir (well known , under the Orient Company's flag), which will be remembered as the vessel on which tho Duke and Duchess of York (now Kinp George and Queen Mary), travelled to Australia and New Zealand, has been sold to the Admiralty. The steamer was built and engincd by Messrs. Jl. Napier and Sons, Glasgow, in 1891. She is a steel twin-screw steamer of 6942 tons.
T'he American four-masted schooner Annie Larsen, which has just left Puget Sound for New Zealand, with a cargo of lumber, had a- narrow escape when proceeding to her loading berth. She was bound from Honolulu, and was approaching her destination when a violent hurricane <rorang up. She parted from the trnr. ond war lost for two or three riav*. Masters of vessels trading to Lvttelton notified that the lighted and whistling buoy at the Heads has been removed for Ho<nnimr and nainting. In tho meanwhile It is replaced by a can buoy nainted red.
