POSTED PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS
NEGLIGENCE OF THE PUBLIC,
In spite of information given through the Press and in official publications of the Post Office a/3 to the best way of packing parcels sent to soldiers at tho front, much carelessness is still shown by senders. Articles are still sent which, easily fermenting in a hot climate, destroy the whole other contents of a- parcel. Wrappings are still llimsy and are torn ( off or burst open, carrying the address with them and leaving the parcel without an owner. Flimsy labels are stili insecurely attached and are torn off by rough, but not wilfully rough, hands, again leaving the parcel without an owner. Addresses .ire; still incomplete or otherwise ineffective, especially in respect of the regimental number, which is always required* and must be written first a 5 in the published bpecimen addresses._ Parcels are made too bulky; and in view of the particular requests for keeping the parcels small it may be easily understood that such parcels suffer the delays that cause heart-burning and provoke inquiry. The_ following mossage Received from the High Commissioner is now published by the Postmaster-General:—
"Large number parcels arriving here for members of New Zealand Expeditionary Force, with name and address undecipherable.' Suggest that porsons sending parcels should be requested enclose additional label fully addressed, together with name and. address of sender." The public are invited to carefully &- tend to this. If the public will consult the directions given in the last Supplement of the Post and Telegraph Guide, or inquire at any post office, they will find out what they must do if they are. fairly to expect the prompt delivery of their parcels to their soldier friends.
