MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided nt yesterday's sittings of the Magistrate's Court, whoa several defendants appearing on remand were further remanded for various reasons. Daniel Leem, Who had beeii arrested on a charge of helpless drunkenness, and remanded to gaol for curative treatment, was ordered to bo detained ponding examination as to his mental condition.
Alfred John Hilliar, charged with tlieffc of a pair of boots valued at 15s. 6(1., was sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
Linda Kathleen O'Connor was fined 10s. for insobriety, the alternative being 48 hours' imprisonment. Esther Mildred Yarrow proceeded against Robert Yarrow for separation, maintenance, and security for payments thoreof. Defendant, who had formerly been,in business in Wellington, left as a cook with tlio Main Expeditionary Force. Reoently an ex parte order was issued against him for payment of £1 Gs. per week for maintenance. He applied for cancellation of arrears due under this ordor." After hearing the ovidoncGj A tlio Magistrate dismissed th© application for separation, o,nd adjourned the question of security. The original order and the arrears were allowed to stand, but future payments were reduced to £1 per . week. Mr. C. W. Nielson appeared for the complainant, while Mr. H. F. O'Leary. appeared for the defendant.
UNDEFENDED CIVIL' CASE.
Before Mr. "W. G Eiddell, S.M., judgment by default was given for tho plaintiff in the following civil action:— Laery and Co.. Ltd., v. Elizabeth Catherine Higgins, £4G 15s. 9d., costs £3 6s.
