Some threo years''ago, Mr.' Hipru'as Noylon, one of/ the''largest' farmer's' of Merced County, California; who;, was touring the Dominion, was struck by Iho splendid crops' of barley grown' in the Marlborough district, anil' requested. •Messrs.-Dwan Bros, to; secure for him a, sample of the seed—the Archer barley, so popular iii Marlborough. Messrs. ; J Corry and C0.,..0f Blenheim, sent f 'Messrs.-Dwan Brothers a bushel of: the •barley, to bo forwarded to Mr. Noylon, who wrote from Merced on September 18 last; stating that at the Merced .County's first annual fair,' which is the ■biggest Allow in the history of the State, the first prize for barley was awarded to Mr. John-. Thornton. This .barley was exceptionally large and solid, and was from the original seed sent from Marlborough. Mr. Noylon presented Mr. IThornton with lolb. in 1912. The result 'of the crop this year amounted to 1\ tons, and is said to be superior to any barley grown !in the State of California.
