IMPORTANT STEP BY ART UNION COMMITTEE
It is interesting to note that for the purpose of creating complete confidence iu the economical management of tho M'Hardy Gift Art Union, six leading business men jn Palmerston North have formed themselves into a committee (of which slr. P. A. M'Hnrdy is chairman) to maintain the expenses of the art union at the lowest possible figure. They have also dccided that their books shall bo open to inspection by anyono interested. Everything is being done to onsuro that the money paid ovef by tho public to the art union shall go to help tho boys who have been knocked out of action at Anzac and elsewhere. Tho money will not be allowed to lie idle in the Dominion, b.ut will go straight to tho front. In this connection it it announced that the Manawatu Patriotic Society has decided to send a substantial sum every month to Iho Y.M.C.A., whoso splendid work in Egypt, Malta, Mudros, and Clallipoli has won the admiration of all. Thet'o. precautions will be 'appreciated by tho public, and as tho prizo pffered ic a very handsomo one, being a corner section in Palmerston North donated by Mr. P. A. M'Hardy, and valued at .£3OOO, it is expected that there will be a very largo demand for tickets. If tho winner so desires, ho or she can have 2000 sovereigns in lieu of the section. Tickcts, which cost only 2s. Gd., are on sale at leading tobacconists and bookralleTS, or may be obtained by post from E. Grant Sim, Box 229, Palmerston North.
