ARMENIAN ATROCITIES
A THRILLING ACCOUNT CHRISTIANS IN DISTRESS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Conyrtshl London, December 20. The pastor of the Armenian Church at Zeitoiui gives a thrilling account of the escape from Armenia, cabled on September 21. When the people were banished from the villages they fled to the heights of Mousadagh. The refugees consisted of 2000 women and girls, 427 babies, 628 young boys, and 1054 men. Half the latter were armed with oldfashioned rifles. Trenches were constructed, together with ramparts of rocks. The Turks, well armed, crept to within 400 yards of them. The Armenians in the night time made a sortie and attacked the enemy with the courage of despair. The Turks were surprised, and retreated. Later, 15,000 of them resumed the siege. The Armenians rolled boulders down the mountain-side, disastrously for the Turks, as the Mousadagh descends precipitately to the sea. Hoisting wi immense flag, bearing the words, "Christians in distress, rescue!" they anxiously watched for a passing vessel. After warding off the Turks for fifty-three days, the French warship Guichen saw the signal, wirelessed for further ships, and all the Armenians were rescued.
