The second day's 'play for these matches is fixed for January 8. At the Basin Reserve, Trenthani, batting: first against University, scored 201 ruus, which included a partnership of 76 between Jvaughton and Howe for the fourth wicket, and a remarkable tenth wicket stand of 79 runs by Bramiey and Dowsett, who both gave numerous chances. Fenton, for University,. 1 .secured six wickets for 74 runs. The University batsmen : made a poor showing against tho bowling of Kinvig and Sandman, and at the drawing r,f. stumps had lost seven vo'ckets for 97 runs. i,; • Central and Old Boys appeared to be evenly matched on the adjoining wicket at the Basin Reserve, the former scoring 211 in the first innings. Old Boys had lost six wickets for : 101; runs.at the close of the day's play. Tucker was bowling well for Old Boys; and he obtained the nice average of five wickets for 38 runs. Kast scored 233 in thc : .first, innings against Petone, who registered 79 for six wickets. Hutchings (Kast) batted well, and Brice (Petone) performed the "hat trick."
