SUNDAY CONCERT

No very ambitious standard was .achieved by the Wellington Choral Club at the concert given in His Majesty's - Theatre last evening, The club's chorus was much too weak in numbers, and poor in tone to do anything like justico to Gaul's chorus, "Lo! This is Our God." Madame Anderson could not attend, and Mr. W. Goudie kindly took her place, singing "The Queen of Connemara" and "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" with 6omo understanding. Miss Mabel Har-dinge-Maltby recites well. Her enunciation is as clear-cut as a newly-minted coin. Last evening she recited "The Flag Goes By," "Why " and a stirring bit of verse entitled "The Roll Call," really admirably. Mr. J. Bryant lacked confidence in the tenor solo, "My Hope is in the Everlasting," from Stainer's cantata, "The Daughter of Jairus," which calls for religious fervour and vocal authority. Miss Elsie Harper sang a ballad, and Miss Myrtle M'Laughlin showed budding promise. as an exponent of the violin. Madame 'Mueller conducted the club's chorus, and Mr. Thomas acted as accompanist.
