There were awful- scenes at the railway collision. There are twelve dead. When the gas ignited in the first three carriages, horror was heaped tin horror. A search of the debris ..revealed charred and unrecognisable bodies. One man who was pinned in the wreckage pleaded' to be put out of his agony; another, horrified at seeing the flames approaching, asked for his leg to be amputated to permit of his escape, but despite all efforts lie -was incinerated. Many of the passengers were munition workers carrying tools, which helped them to escape.
