* SITUATION ACUTE ONCE AGAIN a * ATTACK ON SUEZ CANAL ENEMY'S : ELABORATE PLANS INTRIGUES IN PERSIA I ' I RUSSIA'S TIMELY -MOVE LORD DERBY'S RECRUITS Some further particulars of the measure of .success attained under Lord Derby's recruiting scheme are given to-day. Attestations are .said to have passed the. two million mark. Four classes of recruits enlisted under the scheme—young unmarried men—have been called . to the colours. • The Germans admit the loss of two warships, the light cruiser .Bremen and a torpedoei', by submarine attack in the Baltic. Some niinor successes by the Allies are reported in the main theatres. A lull obtains in the Balkans. The Allies are' ■ landing reinforcements, heavy guns, and war > material at Salonika, and constructing formidable entrenchments. The enemy -is . still beyond the" Greek frontier, contending with transport ' difficulties resulting from the railway destruction effected by the Allies in their retreat: In addition, Greece is objecting to the invasion of her territory by Bulgarian troops] and it is considered that the Austro-Gormans are not in sufficient strength to enter Greece and attack the Allies unaided. The strength of the Italian force lately 'landed in Albania is given as 80,000 men. There are further reports of an impending attaok on the Suoz Canal, and -- a report from Holland, avers that the Germans 'are massing troops for ,an offensive in .the-Western theatre '
