For some time past the Mount 'Hutt Riding of tile Ashburton County has been making concerted efforts to assist Ashburton County for the Relief Fund. A queen carnival, which haß been in progress, was brought to a conclusion at Methven yesterday at a fete held at the conclusion of the local Caledonian Society's sports. There wero six candidates representing tho township and surrounding districts, and Miss Margaret M'Kendry, of Lyndhurst, was elected queen a Ftfor a very close finish. The contest produced £5550, and it is expected the total proceeds of the carnival and .fete will exceed £6000. ...
