He declined to -say whether the result was satisfactory until an analysis had been made. Although tli'j gross total was very large, there was still the question as to how far the ' single men had responded to the country's call. (Rec. December 16, 10.5 p.m.), London, 1 December 16. ) Lord Derby added that tie recruiting committees sought to create an election atmosphere, 1 comparing with voters mini who waited till the last hour before they offered themselves. We were completely snowed under during the lasit week. The figures were great on Sunday, and nearly as great on Monday—overwhelming evidence that the country is absolutely determined. "I ask your Lordships to support me in . saying that it will be impossible to call the married men until the country is absolutely convinced that only a negligible quantity are unaccounted for. We must above all things keep faith with the Premier's pledge to the married men." The Marquis of Crow o congratulated the speaker on the' result of his ungrudging labours. His Lordship was particularly, fitted for his task,- owing to his happy relations with the Labour Party.
