MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES.- ' , Mr. \Y. G. Riddeli, S.M., presided at yesterday's sittings of the Magistrate's Court. There were only a few cases for hearing. A young woman, named Theresa Russell, pleaded not guilty to a charge of importuning, and, on her own application, was remanded for a week. Sho was allowed bail in the sum of £50, and one surety of £50. 1 George William Jackson admitted being drunk, and also acknowledged that ho had entered the Albimi Hotel during tho currency of a prohibition ordor. He was fined 405., with costs 75., the alternative buing seven days' imprisonment. Reginald Keyner, on a charge of helpless drunkenness, was remanded for a week in order that he might be mentally examined by the gaol surgeon. James Ferrier Connell and William Tierney were convicted of drunkenness. The penalty in Connell's case was 205., and in Tierney's case 10s., light alternatives being fixed. Several first-offending inebriates were also dealt with.,/ '.
