NATIONAL RESERVE
Added interest was given to the weekly shoot_ of the Miramar Unit en Monday evening by the inauguration of a series of silver spoon handicaps. Private Wilson (2) 65 was the successful contestant, the runners-up being Sergt. W. Hull 64 and Private fa. Stone 63. The unit paraded in good numbers at the drill on Tuesday evening, under Lieut. Norton Taylor, when a visit of inspection was paid by the Commandant of the Wellington District (Colonel Porter), Major Townsend being also pre- : sent. After inspection the members gave an exhibition of the work undertaken by them in tie usual course of their including rifle exercises, physical drill, organised military games, and bayonet fighting. Colonel Porter addressed a few remarks to the men, expressing his pleasure at being able to be present, and took the opportunity to congratulate the company on having been fortunate enough, during the_ early stages of its career, to have as instructor Lieut. R. H. Nimmo. Be . was very deeply impressed by .the spirit with which members had entered into their -work, and complimented them on their proficiency. ' CENTRAL BRANCH. On Tuesday evening ; fhe Central Branch paraded at the Te Aro Schoolgrounds as usual and went through a 'course of company drill and shooting. It was decided to hold the next parade on January 11, when a full muster is requested.' 'ip: SHOOTING MATCH. A shooting match was held last evening between the Hiitt and Petone units of the National Reserve, resulting . an follows:—Petone, 810;.Hutt, 740. Lieut. Anderson (Petone) scored;6B out of a possible 70.
