Some twenty leading citizens in Palmerston have each promised .£IOO towards buying the section for 2000 sovereigns if the winner desires to sell. This art union is being conducted • by tho Manawatu Patriotic Society,' of whioh Mr. J. A. Nash, for many years Mayor ot Palmerston, is the chairman. The scheme is managed in the most economical way, and as a guarantee of this the books are open for inspection by anyone interested. Tickets are obtainable at leading tobacconists and booksellers, or by post from Mr. Grant Sim, box 229, Palmerston North.
