December 13, 9.15 p.m.) Sydney, December 13. .Captain Beau (Official Correspondent with the Australian Forces), cabling on November 28, says:—"The Anzacs Save had their first experience of snow, and iti has caught the troops unprepared. They are still without sheepskins. Warm hand and foot gear iviil be acceptable. ' Although the troops are v.cll provided in many respects, comforts are not easily procurable, and without these the campaign might almost become a sccond Crimea. Besides the: loss of the outgoing Christ* mas mail, a large incoming mail hat foundered." . [Captain Bean's message was-referred to the Hon. Jas. Allen (Defence Minister) on receipt last evening. In reply to a question, the Minister said that the Imperial Government had undertaken to supply sheepskins for the. troops and also water-tight trench boots. Wo on our part had sent forward a large supply of leather waistcoats—he could not, at the moment say, from memory, how many, but he thought the number was over 6000—and these should be almost there now, if they had nob already arrived. With regard to the reference' to the loss of the outgoing and incoming Christmas -mails, Mr. Allen said that he bad had no advice on that point so'far.]
