CITY CRICKET

BIG HITTING FOUR CENTURIES RUN UP Heavy scoring was tho feature of Saturday's senior cricket. On tho Basin Heservo four centuries were' made—Jlutch-' vugs (Bast), 148 not out; Cook (TrenIham), 123 not out; Dind (Central), 102 not out; and Bccehoy (Old Boys), 109. Other big scores wero:—Campbell (Trentham), GS not out; Bray (North), GG; Wilson (North), 50; Burton (Central), 77; Birch (University), 97; Baker (East), 59; Barry (East), 55; Wilkinson (NOrtb), 40 not out. The l>atsmen generally seemed in tho humour for rigorous work, tho ground was in great condition, and the wicket did not assist the bowlers. The innings of the day was Hutchings's. He resurrected Iris form of some years ago, and his biff strike of 148 not out was practically a chancoless display: Cook, who made 123 not out for Trentham, formerly played for Central. He gavo several chances during his inningsone when he was about twenty. Another chance (occurring when ho was 88) almost robbed him of his century. Dind savo an excellent display in tho course of liis run for the century. His driving was beautiful, and he smote all looso stuff towards the boundary. Birch had hard luck. He readied 97, and was beautifully oaught one hand b.y Collett off a difficult chance. Beechey's century was mado with excellent rapidity. Trentham beat Old Boys by ten runs on tho first innings. In their second strike Trentham Tan up 308, and Old Boys' second innings was marked by a fast century by Beechey. Central beat North very easily; and .East comfortably defeated University. . Tlie bowling honours fell to Gibbes and Fenton. , Fenton Cpniversity) took sevon East wickets for 84' runs, and Gibbes got all but one of the University sticks.
