Itoutor's Salonika correspondent Bays that a general retirement of the Allies from the front has begun. Reuter's representative at the French headquarters in Macedonia reports all quiet on the morning of the 9th. The Bulgarians ate claiming a great victory because tliey, occupied the abandoned territory. The Bulgarians, who are numerically superior, are following the Allies. Bulgarian comitadjis (irregulars) penetrated into Greek territory with the view of cutting the railway, but the Greek authorities frustrated the attempt. BRITISH REPULSE FOUR BULGARIAN ATTACKS. London, December 10. "The Times" states that if the Bulgarians really annihilated a French battalion at Petrovo, they are well behind the French. There is a risk that tho enemy may cut the railway on which the main body of the French is depending.' It cannot be denied that both British and French are likely to have great difculty in extricating themselves. > Mr. Martin Donohoe writes from Athens that the Anglo-French troops on ■Wednesday fiercely attacked a large Bulgar force on the Blagucha Plateau. Tho enemy attacked the French flank, and the latter changed front to meet the onslaught. The Bulgarians encountered the British at, Valandovo. The British repulsed four attacks, decimating the Bulgars. Heavy reinforcements arrived in the evening, and the enemy tnreatened the British right. ITALIANS LANDING TROOPS AT VALONA. " Paris, December 10. The newspapers publish advices from Rome stating that the Italians are busy landing troops at Valona (or Avlona) on the Albanian coast. LANDING TROOPS DURING THREE DAYS. . (Rec. The" Paris "Journal" states that General Mackensen's force is approaching Monastir, and seems to be split up into two sections. The larger, has crossed the Vardar and is marching from Ncorakop, with the German cavalry reported Tound Ishtib, to the Strumnitz district. General, Sarrail's latest communique states that the retreat from the Cerna front was methodically effected without great loss, though the attackers were heavily punished on the Bth and 9th/ The French now occupy a front along the course of the Bojimia. Other telegrams estimate that 150,000 Anglo-French are facing 250,000 Bulgars and 150,000 Germans. At least' 250,000 are required to fortify Salonika where the geographical conformation makes defence difficult, apart from tho danger of the Greek army, which is entrenohed on a hill commanding tlio town.
